Meet Alissa, PhD (she/her)

Dr. Alissa Hochman is a licensed clinical psychologist whose research, teaching, and advocacy center on racial justice, allyship, and equity. Over nearly fifteen years, she has developed and delivered JEDI training and difficult-dialogue facilitation across higher education, medical education, mental health, and community settings.

She has worked with organizations across the full spectrum of JEDI readiness — from those just beginning to grapple with equity issues to those with mature, deeply engaged initiatives — and is known for using experiential, emotionally engaged teaching strategies that build empathy while minimizing defensiveness.

Dr. Hochman's approach draws on her research on ally and accomplice development, including her doctoral work dismantling an intervention designed to increase White people's understanding of racial injustice. She has presented nationally on these topics, and her scholarship has been published in the Journal of Social Issues, American Journal of Orthopsychiatry, and Research in Human Development, among others. Dr. Hochman also regularly engages in advocacy connected to her own positionality, including as a core organizer for Psychologists for Justice in Palestine and Jewish Psychologists for Justice.
